At the Dragon’s Gate
Violin, Cello and Piano -Duration: c. 17:00

Premiered by the Williams Trio, this is the second work in a series inspired by visits to Ryoanji, a temple and rock garden in Kyoto, Japan. The work consists of three movements which flow from one to the next creating a seamless whole. Origin is meditative, but with an underlying energy building gradually from almost nothing to a dramatic climax which then recedes to Dialogue, a more lyrical and soloistic section. The opening materials are brought back in a new form for the closing movement, Transformation. Its fast, virtuosic and almost "jazz fusion" feel leads to a dazzling conclusion.
